Nestled in the vibrant heart of Walsh Bay, The Bund - Walsh Bay is a charming Chinese restaurant that seamlessly blends authentic flavors with a warm, inviting atmosphere. Located just steps from the Roslyn Packer Theatre, this spot is perfect for a pre-show dinner or a casual night out. Though the intimate space means bookings are recommended, the attentive service and tantalizing menu more than make up for it.
The cuisine at The Bund is delightfully traditional with a modern edge. Their dumplings stand out as a crowd favorite, especially the prawn and chive dumplings served with a subtly spicy chili oil that adds just the right amount of kick. The dumplings are notably larger than many other Sydney offerings, bursting with juicy, fresh fillings that melt in your mouth. For noodle lovers, the wok-fried Shanghai-style noodles deliver that perfect balance of silky strands, savory sauce, and a hint of sweet soy, making each bite comforting and satisfying.
Expect generous portions that are thoughtfully crafted, providing a hearty, fulfilling experience without feeling heavy. The shrimp and crab spring rolls are a delectable appetizer, featuring a crisp exterior that gives way to tender, flavorful meat inside. Meanwhile, the steamed barramundi fish fillet bathed in a delicate soy sauce base caters well to those who appreciate deep umami notes, though some diners suggest pairing it with rice for a more balanced plate.
While the interior leans towards a modern, minimalist industrial vibe — with concrete surfaces that can amplify sound — the bustle adds to the energy and liveliness, reflective of the bustling Sydney dining scene. Service here is warm and proactive; staff are mindful of guests’ schedules, especially helpful for those catching a show nearby, ensuring your meal is timely without feeling rushed. Though one reviewer mentioned that the entrees and mains sometimes arrive simultaneously, which may cool the dishes prematurely, the overall commitment to quality and taste remains unwavering.
The Bund's atmosphere is akin to a welcoming family restaurant, where even a quick late-night feed feels comforting and satisfying. Whether you're stopping by after a theatre performance or indulging in a relaxed evening out, The Bund invites you to savor classic Chinese dishes elevated with care, right in the heart of Sydney’s arts precinct.
For an authentic dining experience with generous portions, attentive service, and a cosy Walsh Bay setting, The Bund - Walsh Bay is a highly recommended destination for lovers of Chinese cuisine.

Located at Walsh Bay this Chinese restaurant is located near the Roslyn Packer theatre and handy for pre show dining. It is fairly small and bookings recommended. Pre show set menus are available. Unfortunately they rush you and entrees and mains come at the same time meaning food gets cold. Portions are generous and tasty though fairly standard. The atmosphere is a little loud due to the concrete floor. A single bathroom is available. There are a couple of outside tables. An ok experience.

Fantastic from start to finish. We arrived close to the end of the night and were welcomed with open arms and smiles. Enjoyed a cocktail and sparkling water to start. For dinner we shared 2 orders of dumplings (larger than others we have enjoyed in Sydney), green beans and Shanghai style noodles. Although we were very hungry it was enough food for at least another person…most food we consumed for any meal. Try them and you too will have a great experience.

We stopped in after a watching a play at Sydney Theatre Company across the road. They were getting ready to close in 30mins but we were able to sit and order a few things. Dumplings and fried rice perfect late night feed. The prawn and chive dumplings with the chilli oil were fantastic! Service quick and friendly, definitely has a family restaurant feel which is nice.

Great chinese food. Not much noodle and rice variety but what was ordered was done very well. The staff warmly greeted us and asked if we needed be anywhere (like to a show). We werent, but its good to know they are proactive with serving you a bit quicker if you need to get going. Booking was a breeze. Reccomended to give this a go if you're in the area.

We found this spot while on vacation. The shrimp and crab spring rolls were delicious. My husband ordered the wok fried Shanghai noddle which he really enjoyed it. I ordered the steamed barramundi fish fillet and it was in a soy sauce base which if you are a big soy sauce fan you’d enjoy it. Personally I’d would have liked more flavors and maybe a rice to go with it.
